The Federal Republic of Ethiopia, formerly named Kingdom of Aksum in the 4th century, is a land-locked country in northeast Africa. It lies between 33 - 48 degrees east and 3.5 - 15 degrees north. There are 5 countries around its border. These are:

Sudan (1,606 km) to the west
Kenya (515 miles) to the south
Somalia (nine hundred ninty two miles) to the east
Eritrea (nine hundred ten kilo metre) to the northeast
Djibouti (211 miles) to the northeast
